This is a transcription of Osvaldo Pugliese’s 1945 recording of DeCaro’s El Monito. It was always my favorite interpretation of the song as a dancer, and the transcription helps me understand why. Very clear, balanced arrangement, fun effects and just the right amount of funky. The recording sounds like F# but I’ve chosen to write it in the original published key (F). I’m told many tango recordings were sped up (pitched up) in the transfers to make the sound brighter, more energentic. The F version also falls comfortably for the bandoneons. 🙂
